SCHOOL TESTING PROGRAM
Federal law requires all students to be assessed in English Language Arts (ELA) and Math each year in Grades 3–8 and once in high school. Federal law also requires students to be assessed in Science once in Grades 3–5, once in Grades 6–8, and once in high school. The grade and subject level tests delivered through the Oklahoma School Testing Program (OSTP) meet federal law. State tests provide a common measure of students’ performance relative to our academic standards. The Oklahoma Academic Standards (OAS) serve as a road map for what students should know and be able to do at each grade-level. Measuring real-world skills like problem-solving and critical thinking, state tests provide a valid way to measure students’ progress in gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities they need to be ready for the next grade, course, or level.
Parent, Student and Teacher Guides provide a list of test-taking tips, objectives covered in the test, and practice tests. Parents/guardians are encouraged to discuss these materials with their child to help prepare them for the tests.
